Competitive Scholarships

Merit-Based and Need-Based Scholarships
While much of what is given out in the form of scholarships goes to academic achievement Texas State also puts forth need based scholarships which in turn go to students that we determine have financial need as they fill out their FAFSA or TASFA applications.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Freshman Assured Scholarships
President’s Honor Scholarship: Awarded to students which have outstanding academic records this scholarship which is for $48,000 over four years and which renewes if the student maintains a 3.25 GPA and completes 28 credit hours annually.

Texas State Achievement Scholarship: Over the course of four years from 24,00 which goes to high achieving students based on SAT/ACT scores and class rank.

Texas State Distinguished Scholarship: Over a period of four years which saw the award at 16,00 This scholarship is for high school seniors in the top third of their class.

Terry Foundation Scholarship

A very competitive award for Texas residents the Terry Foundation Scholarship which also includes coverage of large chunk of tuition, fees and living expenses we put emphasis on students’ outstanding academic performance, leadership, and community service.

Graduate Scholarships and Assistantships


Texas State’s grant programs for grad students is what we see to be a strong point. We have assistantships which put our students to work on campus in research, teaching, or admin roles. Also we see to be very supportive in terms of stipends doled out and that tuition is often covered which in turn allows our grad students to put all their energy into their studies and at the same time gain very valuable experience.

McCoy College of Business Scholarships

For in the field of business at McCoy College we have over 100 scholarships available to students. We have designed a single application process through our BOSS which also serves to identify which awards each candidate is qualified for based on their academic history and career goals.

Application Process for Scholarships

At Texas State we have put in place the Bobcat Online Scholarship System (BOSS) for our scholarship application process. Students create a profile and fill out a single application which in turn is used to match them to appropriate scholarships. For freshman there is no separate application required for assured scholarships, but for competitive scholarships and those related to specific programs a separate application may be required.

Eligibility Requirements and Renewal Criteria


Scholarship recipients must meet which include a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 for most awards and that of being enrolled at 28 credit hours per term. Also it is recommended that students check out the unique renewal criteria for each scholarship.

Texas State University provides counseling and resources to our students which in turn they put to use to max out their aid packages. We also guide them through FAFSA/TASFA applications and in securing extra financial aid beyond what we offer in university scholarships.
